Online Studies

We are running studies Online!

Check out these online studies for things to do from the comfort of your own home.

Your children can participate in as many online research games as they want. Days and times are flexible to your schedule.

All you need is a computer with internet access and video-conference capabilities (camera and sound).

Trust in Consensus

Do children find a group’s opinion more convincing than that of one person? In this activity, your child will read fun stories and watch short video clips of adults making judgments. Your child will be asked questions about these videos and there are no right or wrong answers -- we just want to hear what children think!

Ages: 3- to 5-year-olds

Location: Online via Zoom

Duration: 20-30 minutes

Compensation: $5 Amazon gift card

If you are interested in participating, please sign up by emailing us at ecclab@duke.edu or by clicking here.

The Virtue of Intellectual Humility

Do children understand that sometimes “I don’t know” is the best answer? In this activity, your child will be introduced to two adults who reason about different stories. Your child will then answer questions about the two people’s reasoning processes.

Ages: 5- to 8-year-olds

Location: Online via Zoom

Duration: 15 minutes

Compensation: $5 Amazon gift card

If you are interested in participating, please sign up by emailing us at ecclab@duke.edu or by clicking here.

Belief Change Difficulty

Discover the power of evidence with your child! In this activity, your child will listen to stories of peers with similar beliefs, and then will be asked questions about the people in the stories.

Ages: 4- to 8-year-olds

Location: Online via Zoom

Duration: 15-20 minutes

Compensation: $5 Amazon gift card

If you are interested in participating, please sign up by emailing us at ecclab@duke.edu or by clicking here.

Does it Need an Explanation?

Does there need to be an explanation for why the sky is blue? In this short, online activity, children will be shown a series of pictures and statements on a variety of topics, such as biology, physics, and nature. For each statement, children will be asked if they think the statement is true and if they think there must be an explanation for the statement.

Ages: 4- to 9-year-olds

Location: Online via Zoom

Duration: 10 minutes

Compensation: $5 Amazon gift card

If you are interested in participating, please sign up by emailing us at ecclab@duke.edu or by clicking here.
